Are you planning on trying cover crops on your farm in 2021, 2022 and 2023? If so you may be eligible for a significant scholarship. The Association Board has approved participating in a Cover Crop benchmarking study. Depending on participation the scholarship could cover up to half of your association fees for up to 2 years.

The cover crop benchmarking cost-share program creates the opportunity for farmers growing cover crops to participate in the scholarship for up to two years (2022-2023). Producers are eligible to apply if they grow cover crops on at least one FULL field (we can split fields if necessary to make a “full” field) between growing seasons and if they grow any of the following crops:

  • Corn (for grain)
  • Corn Silage
  • Soybeans
  • Wheat
  • Sugar Beets

We are recruiting farms now as we will need to identify participants by December 15. Contact your field staff soon to learn more.

Southwest Minnesota Farm Business Management Association is partnering with Environmental Defense Fund, and University of Minnesota’s Office of Soil Health and Center for Farm Financial Management to provide financial benchmarking of Minnesota farms growing cover crops.
